Queen have shared a video of a side by side comparison of Queen’s Live Aid performance with the movie re-enactment. While the recently released Queen biopic has some mixed reviews, one of the most talked about scene is the 1985 Live Aid concert at Wembley. Have you seen the new movie Bohemian Rhapsody yet?
Other audience members joined in too. With so much care and attention to the details, watching the Live Aid concert scene brought me into that moment of magic when Queen stole the show and left a mark in music history forever. The filmmakers also made it a point to film at similar angles which the television crew had videotaped the iconic concert in 1985.With slight alterations to the angles to give the film a more dramatised feel, Rami Malek and his fellow cast members even made it a point to replicate the movement of each band member. From Freddie tapping his seat before bursting with Bohemian Rhapsody, to the number of Pepsi cups on the piano, it took the crew a week to film just the concert scene.Heck, to really pull of the concert scene, actual band members of Queen had assisted Rami and the cast in channeling themselves.Brian May and Roger Taylor made sure that the music, look and feel were spot on.While the actors actually performed on stage, their voices were later remixed during post-production to preserve authenticity. But don't take our word for it. Live Aid saved Queen’s butt after their phenomenal idiocy in playing that resort. Rami Malek, who plays the iconic Freddie Mercury in the film, is amazing in his performance. The film drops digitally on January 22nd, followed by a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on February 12th. But then again, it's a biopic... so we all sort of know what happens. The first scene which was filmed for Bohemian Rhapsody was the iconic Live Aid concert of 1985.Heck, the film opens with Rami as Freddie, preparing at the backstage before the film takes us through a series of flashbacks before culminating with the iconic concert.Decked in a tucked in white singlet, light blue jeans, and an exact replica of the arm bracelet which Freddie wore at the concert, Rami did a very convincing job of not only channeling the legendary performer, but also replicating his exact moves during the concert. The makers of the film were unable to shoot the concert scene at the Wembley stadium as it had underwent extensive renovations 33 years later. The scene was shot at Bovingdon Airfield, in the outskirts of London. Every format will include the complete Live Aid performance re-enactment (not seen in theaters).
The event was organised by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine disaster.
